Windows live mail hanging
Perhaps this will work better with W10? I encountered this after upgrading a client's machine to Windows The fix for me was to right click on the Windows Live Mail icon, properties, then the compatibility tab. Once there, I checked off Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and it has been working for them since. It is possible that your Windows Live Mail is corrupted and needs to be repaired.

Plans and Pricing. Contact Us. Installed Thunderbird. Yes, I'm looking at you, Microsoft. Moved all my original email off of my boot drive, just for backup.
Started WLM - it was supposedly uninstalled and the re-install failed, but it started right up - which was lucky for me since I hadn't previously exported my contacts. So I did that and imported them into Thunderbird. Deleted all traces of WLM from my system. Good riddance, thanks Microsoft. I note this only because WLM started up easily with no email present.
I wonder if the sheer volume of existing email was what it couldn't handle? Anyone with this problem might try backing up and deleting a large number of emails just to see if WLM will start properly. Thanks for the post. Please if you have any antivirus program installed on your machine that does email scanning option, could you try disabling the email option and see if this is the cause for the windows live mail hangs.
This will give you a clean start. Afterwards, reinstall it to see if it works properly. Please use this link for your reference:. NOTE - Disclaimer. The links in this message may lead to third-party Web sites. Information at these sites may change without notice.

I first thought that my mail box was too loaded and that i had some corruption in there so I backup my data and just flushed evrything and reinstalled WLM. I had tried repairing before but I tried again after your comment, again unfortunately no change in WLM.
Your help is much appreciated and I would be most pleased to hear of anything else you could suggest to solve this problem. I use Explorer and Firefox as browsers and both suffered near terminal failure! On Feb 9, pm, " An error has occurred". Thank you Robear once again. After the Norton removal I did indeed do a clean uninstall and reinstalled WLM and still the problem continued. Another thought I can only download WLM build If so could anyone give me a link to downlaod it.
Any help form anyone would be most appreciated. I feel sure that it would solve the issue but having printed out the link you sent me I judder with messing around with the registry and other horrors that seem to lie in wait for me! I am almost for leaving WLM alone and using a new mail programme but it still annoys me that I would lose 14 years worth of e-mails in the same programme, though I know of course that they can be saved to open at will, though jumbled up, now I have found the folder.
Maybe I will pluck up courage and try the uninstall but I need some time to think about it! Thanks again for all your hard work to try and resolve my problem. I followed your URL as far as I could, some of the items to tackle had disappeared after I had made the one registry change which was necessary.
