If not, click the New button to create it. Use the New button to set up dialing rules for multiple locations, too.
To create or change dialing rules for any location listed in the Phone and Modem Options dialog box, click the location name and then click the Edit button. The first set of options, shown in Figure 2 , are self-explanatory. If you need to dial a number carrier code for an outside line, choose the appropriate options, and specify the number you dial.
Call waiting can interfere with modems. To create a rule for dialing area codes, click the Area Code Rules tab.
Then click New to get to the options shown. The instructions on the tab explain how to define a rule. My external modem works fine and I've got a Fax and Scan printer icon on my system. I've tried different dialing number combinations. I've tried the Dialing Rule as "None". No help! Is there an answer, preferably written and detailed on this subject?

Split area codes are more complicated, since the same area code could be local or long distance. NOTE : On installations of Windows where dialing has not yet been configured, you will see an initial setup screen for Windows dialing properties. It will also ask for a Carrier Code and a number required to access an outside line. These are usually left blank, but some office setups may require this. Tone dialing is set by default and should be enabled for most if not all telephone services.
These settings can always be changed later, so leave them at the default setting if unsure. By default, FaxTalk uses the Windows dialing rules and this should be enabled.
